[Review] ContactPrivacy - Keep Your Contact Information Private

Tired of applications just asserting themselves into your personal information?

We have seen so many instances where applications from the App Store have taken our information from our iPhone and just snatched it like it was their own. One of the most recent instances was with the popular social networking application Path, which as we

Sprint Sells Tons of iPhones, Adds 1.6 Million Subscribers, Posts $400 Million 4Q Loss

Sprint’s 4th quarter marked the first time the benefits of the iPhone would influence their bottom line. Sprint’s earnings report definitely felt the iPhone influence, but not a way that excites investors.

Sprint’s subscriber base increased during the 4Q last year as the company added 1.6 million subscribers. The company sold 1.8 million iPhones last quarter as well, with 40% of Sprint iPhone buyers being new customers. However, in spite of all this positive data Sprint reported a net loss for the quarter reporting operating losses of $438 million up from

Petitions Regarding 'Worker Abuse' to Pelt Apple Stores Tomorrow

Tomorrow could be a rough day outside of a number of Apple retail stores.

We learned Wednesday that an activist group plans to target various Apple stores around the world and circulate what's being called "worker abuse" petitions. The central hub of the effort, however, will take place outside of Apple's new and gargantuan Grand Central Terminal store.

The purpose of the petition circulation, which sounds more like an actual demonstration to some of us, is meant to draw further attention to allegations of human abuses at production facilities that, while

Product Shortages Hurting European Apple Resellers

Being a business that sells Apple products is usually a good thing, except for when you consistently disappoint customers with insufficient product inventory.

According to published reports Wednesday, Apple's European-based "Premium Resellers" are growing frustrated with Apple as the company all too frequently leaves them hanging with product shortages and depleted inventories of the most sought-after mobile devices in the tech world today.

eBizcuss, Apple's the first authorized reseller in France, claims that its sales have plummeted by nearly 25% following

Dev Discovers Path App Uploading Entire iPhone Address Book to its Servers

The popular and elegant mobile social networking app, Path, has come under heavy criticism after developer Arun Thampi discovered that the app uploads users’ address books to its servers without asking for permission. The whole ordeal was discovered by Thampi when he encountered the back-end feature while attempting to hack the application to run on the Mac OS X. After he went public with the news, it sparked quite a bit of backlash from users who viewed the address book upload as a violation of their privacy.

The Path CEO, Dave Morin, quickly responded to Thampi by clarifying that the upload was

Study Shows Apps Have Created 466,000 U.S. Jobs in Four Years

A report recently released by TechNet claims that the so-called “App Economy” seems to have grown beyond Apple’s App Store to become an entity of its own - one that has seen steady growth over the past four years.

The folks over at TechNet worked with consulting firm South Mountain Economics LLC to quantify the size and impact of the App Economy by researching keywords in help-wanted ads, want-ad to employment ratio, tech employment to total employment, and job multipliers. The study ended up revealing that that the fast-growing industry is responsible for

iPads Being Tested for Entertainment and Ordering Purposes at Buffalo Wild Wings

The popular restaurant chain Buffalo Wild Wings is expanding a pilot program where their customers place orders for food and drinks via an iPad right from their table. Now for those of you who haven’t had a chance to use the iPads in a Buffalo Wild Wings place, you might be thinking about how gross the iPad may be with all those greasy fingers touching the screen. Don’t worry though, the iPads are protected in rugged cases from Hubworks and have already been tested at a location in Toronto. The company now seems to be expanding their testing to a restaurant in Minneapolis.
Apple's VP of iPhone and iPod Engineering Left Company Near the End of 2011

According to 9to5Mac, Apple’s VP of iPhone and iPod Engineering David Tupman left his position with Apple at the end of last year. Tupman's departure is the latest in a string of Apple executives leaving their positions at Apple.

Tupman started his tenure with the introduction of the first iPod and stayed all the way through the development and release of the iPhone 4S. Needless to say Apple lost a vital component of the iDevice team. Tupman, a UK native, attended and graduated from Stanford with a degree in engineering electronics. Tupman landed at Apple after working for Schlumberger

Apple Adds Lion Internet Recovery Support to Older Macs

Apple released three EFI firmware updates today brining Lion’s Internet Recovery feature to the Mid-2010 iMac, Early 2010 MacBook Pro, and Late 2010 MacBook Air.

Apple introduced the Lion Internet Recovery feature on new MacBook Air and Mac Mini models alongside OS X Lion in July. The Internet Recovery feature adds a small bootable install onto a machine’s firmware that allows the machine to connect to the Internet and download the full Lion OS for installation. This feature is another safety net to the recovery partition OS X Lion installs on every Lion machine’s hard drive.

Mass Effect 3 iOS Game Tie-In to Directly Affect Console Counterpart

Mass Effect 3 is under two months away, and much like its predecessor will get its own iOS game tie-in, but the similarities end there.

Mass Effect 2’s tie-in—Mass Effect Galaxy—was a top-down action game that focused on Jacob Taylor, a non-customizable character who also was the first companion, players of the console version met. While ME2 fleshed out a character in the ME2 universe, ME3’s iOS tie-in—Mass Effect Infiltrator—is going to directly influence elements of the console game.

User’s playing the iOS game will increase their “Galactic Readiness rating” which

Mac Sales Slash PC Receipts to New European Lows

According to the latest data published by research firm Gartner, Mac sales in Europe are driving PC sales into retreat like never before. The freshly published report indicates that PC sales across the continent tanked during Q4 of 2011.

Just how low did they go?

Apple's Mac sales were so strong that Gartner is largely crediting Apple with reducing PC sales in the U.K. by almost 20 percent year-over-year in the holiday quarter. PCs didn't look much better in France, where PC sales similarly tumbled close to 12 percent.
Apple to Developers: Make Apps Retina Display Compatible or Don't Make Them At All

Apple: we want retina-sized apps now.

I cannot tell you the countless times I have been disappointed after purchasing an application only to find that it was made for the standard resolution display. I personally wish that app developers would take the hint that Apple wants us to move to retina displays - since standard display resolution applications appear pixelated on the retina display. There are still, even in current times, countless applications in the App Store that only support the standard display devices. The retina display resolution comes in at 640 pixels wide by 960 pixels high where

Theme Of The Week: Boxor HD

This week's winner is BoxorHD.

BoxorHD is a Dreamboard theme. Dreamboard works a little different than WinterBoard in that it's more customizable with icon layout, and how the phone's OS actually looks and runs. BoxorHD shows this off very well. It has great widgets, custom icons, and custom layout. Grab this must have Dreamboard theme!
Report: Apple May Instantly Claim 5% of HDTV Market

Apple's rumored forthcoming connected HDTV could immediately make the Cupertino, California tech giant a giant in an entirely new industry.

According to the conservative estimates of Ben A. Reitzes of Barclays Capital, an Apple product offering of no more than $1,500 could put the iPhone maker on pace to claim as much as 5% of the HDTV market in the product's first year of availability. Along with that market share would come roughly $17 billion in revenue.
RIM Claims 13% of its App Devs Take Home $100K or More

Mobile app development can, without question, be a lucrative professional endeavor, at least for those with the skill and creativity to develop that which mobile users want in big numbers.

This week, Research in Motion revealed just how lucrative app development has proven to be for 13% of its publishers. According to RIM's vice president of developer relations, Alec Saunders, that's the percentage of BlackBerry app devs who earn upwards of $100,000 annually developing apps for BlackBerry App World.

The news is, naturally, surprising to some. Although BlackBerry's

Wolfram Alpha's Queries Are One-Quarter Siri-Based

How often do you use Wolfram Alpha with Siri?

Siri is Apple's voice control system brought to a whole new level. It comes with not only voice recognition, but clever responses and dictation which make using Siri a pleasure and a very high demand for people not owning an iPhone 4S yet. With that being said, a Siri port for older iDevices is a highly anticipated event. But, have you ever taken the time to see where the answers Siri gets for you come from? A closer look at the bottom right of the Siri query in the screenshot below will answer that question:

The fraudulent ad agency claimed the apps circled above are all clients of theirs. We've sent out emails request more information from the developers in question to substantiate the claims.

Apple sent out a reminder to developers today that Cupertino will not tolerate the manipulation of application rankings in the App Store.
Apple Said to be Discussing Possibility of Stores Inside Sam's Club Locations

Apple and the Walmart subsidiary, Sam’s Club are rumored to be in the early discussions of possibly widening their already existing partnership. As of right now, Sam’s Club already sells iPads, iPhones, and iPods in its large retail chain but the two corporate giants are looking to take their business relationship to the next level. The folks over at 9to5Mac are reporting that Apple is possibly considering expanding its Apple Store-in-store program to the 47 United State retail warehouse chain locations.

Apple is currently found using this strategy in Best Buy and Target in the United States,
